Djokovic eases past Mayer

Novak Djokovic has defeated Florian Mayer in straight sets to book his place in the second round of the Rogers Cup in Toronto.

It took less than an hour for the world number one to advance on Central Court, which sees him set up a meeting with the 353rd-ranked Filip Peliwo or Denis Istomin.

After holding serve, Djokovic broke at the first time of asking for a 2-0 lead in the first set. He then went on to close it out 6-2 without barely breaking a sweat.

The match continued in similar fashion in the second set, with Djokovic completely dominating proceedings and Mayer unable to stop him from strolling to a 6-1 victory.
