Novak Djokovic blitzes Richard Gasquet in 51 minutes

Djokovic beats Gasquet in 51 minutes

Novak Djokovic has booked his place in the Rogers Cup semi-finals after easing past Richard Gasquet in a comfortable straight-sets victory.

Djokovic wasted no time in building a lead in Montreal, breaking Gasquet's serve at the first possible opportunity.

Gasquet stubbornly refused to leave the baseline early on and paid a heavy price, with Djokovic breaking twice to win the first set 6-1 in 25 minutes.

Early in the second set Gasquet showed some glimpses of quality to earn successive holds, including a clever drop-volley which earned applause from the world number one.

Ultimately his resistance counted for little as Djokovic showed no mercy, punishing errors to close out a routine 6-1 6-2 victory in just 52 minutes.

The Serb will now face either Rafael Nadal or Marinko Matosevic in the semi-finals tomorrow night.
