Richard Gasquet outlasts Kei Nishikori at Rogers Cup

Gasquet outlasts Nishikori

Last year's runner-up Richard Gasquet has advanced to the next round of the Rogers Cup thanks to a three-set victory over Kei Nishikori.

The first set was a rout, with the Japanese player taking it 6-1. However, the Frenchman bit back in the second set, breaking twice to win 6-3.

Gasquet drew first blood in the final set, doing more damage on the Nishikori serve to edge ahead 4-2 before closing it out 6-3 in one hour and 56 minutes.

He will go on to play with the winner of Novak Djokovic or Denis Istomin.
