Rafael Nadal pulls out of Rogers Cup

Rafael Nadal has become the latest high-profile player to withdraw from next week's Rogers Cup in Toronto.

Andy Murray and Roger Federer have already announced that they will miss the tournament in order to rest ahead of the Olympic Games, leaving Novak Djokovic as the only member of the world's top four set to compete.

Nadal revealed that he is not yet fit enough to return to action having been forced to pull out of the French Open and miss Wimbledon with a wrist injury.

"I am disappointed to announce I won't be able to come to Toronto to play this year. I only started practising a week ago after my wrist injury and I am not ready to play such an important event," the Spaniard said in a statement.

Nadal is a three-time champion at the Rogers Cup, most recently winning in 2013.
