Federer pulls out of Toronto

World number one Roger Federer has pulled out of next week's Rogers Cup in Toronto, citing his need for some rest.

The 30-year-old came through a record-breaking match against Juan Martin del Potro at the Olympics on Friday to seal a spot in Sunday's gold medal match against Andy Murray.

"I'm very disappointed that I have to withdraw from Toronto," Federer told the tournament's official website.

"After a long stretch of tournaments, I will need some time to rest. I look forward to coming back to Canada next year."

Rafael Nadal withdrew from the competition on Thursday as he recovers from a knee injury that forced him out of the London Games.
