Caroline Wozniacki comeback halted at Nottingham Open

Former world number one Caroline Wozniacki is out of the Nottingham Open after losing in three sets to Anett Kontaveit.

Caroline Wozniacki has been defeated by Anett Kontaveit at the second-round stage of the Nottingham Open.

After a 10-week absence, Wozniacki made her return to the WTA Tour on Tuesday with an impressive showing against Cagla Buyukakcay, but she was edged out during the closing stages against Kontaveit.

The former world number one took the opening set on a tie-break but she was quickly pegged back by the 20-year-old Estonian.

The deciding set was back and forth but Kontaveit broke for a third time to secure a 6-7 6-3 7-5 triumph over the Dane.

Wozniacki faces being unseeded for Wimbledon should she fail to reach the latter stages of any tournament ahead of SW19.
