Britain's Heather Watson progresses through second Wuhan Open qualifier

Heather Watson beats American Samantha Crawford in the second qualifying round of the Wuhan Open.

British number two Heather Watson has come through the second qualifying round of the Wuhan Open with a straight-sets win over Samantha Crawford.

After defeating Chang Liu earlier today, Watson marched on to beat Crawford 7-6(3) 6-2 with one qualifier remaining.

The 24-year-old, who is competing for the first time since losing in the first round of the US Open, suffered an early wobble when her American opponent broke serve at the start of the first set.

Watson eventually broke back before forcing a tie-break, which she sealed 7-3, and the Brit went from strength to strength as she completed the second set in 26 minutes.
