Heather Watson and Laura Robson lose first round matches

Great Britain's Heather Watson and Laura Robson have both lost first round matches in the US ahead of next week's US Open.

World number 70 Watson was beaten 6-3 6-4 by Belgium's Yanina Wickmayer at the Texas Open.

Meanwhile, 18-year-old Robson suffered a 6-3 6-3 defeat to Italian Marion Bartoli at the New Haven Open.

Both Watson and Robson will now play in the US Open, which starts on August 27.
