Serena wins Brisbane International

Serena Williams has won the Brisbane International with a straight-sets victory over Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova.

The 31-year-old eased past her Russian opponent 6-2 6-1 in 50 minutes to claim her 47th career title.

The American world number three has now triumphed in 35 of her last 36 matches.

Williams was due to face world number one Victoria Azarenka in the semi-finals, but the Belarusian was forced to withdraw from their contest with a foot injury.
