Kei Nishikori wins Kooyong Classic

Kei Nishikori has won the Kooyong Classic in Melbourne by beating Tomas Berdych 6-4 7-5 in Saturday's final.

The Japanese star broke Berdych's serve at the first attempt and went on to build a 4-1 lead in the opening set.

World number seven Berdych responded well and got the contest back on serve at 4-5, but he was then broken again as Nishikori claimed the set after 32 minutes.

The second set remained on serve until game 12 when Nishikori broke to seal victory.
