Edmund overcomes Murray at Eastbourne

Kyle Edmund has moved through to the quarter-finals of the Eastbourne International with a straight-sets triumph over Andy Murray.

Edmund was playing his first match at the tournament having received a bye, while Murray was competing after registering his first win since hip surgery against Stanislas Wawrinka.

Murray had been hoping to record another morale-boosting victory, but it was Edmund who prevailed by a 6-4 6-4 scoreline on the south coast of England.

Edmund broke serve on three occasions to move to the brink of victory, but at 5-2 down in the second, Murray began to rally and it forced Edmund to try to serve out the contest at the second opportunity.

However, the 23-year-old held his nerve to record his first ATP Tour success over Murray and he will now face Mikhail Kukushkin for a spot in the semi-finals.

Earlier on Wednesday, British number two Cameron Norrie progressed through to the last eight with a 6-4 6-3 win over compatriot Jay Clarke.
