Andy Murray powers past Rafael Nadal in Abu Dhabi

Andy Murray thrashes Rafael Nadal 6-2 6-0 to reach the final of the Mubadala World Tennis Championship in Abu Dhabi.

Andy Murray has reached the final of the Mubadala World Tennis Championship in Abu Dhabi after recording an emphatic 6-2 6-0 victory over Rafael Nadal.

The 27-year-old needed two hours 29 minutes to overcome Feliciano Lopez on Thursday, but the Scot showed little sign of tiredness as he raced into a 3-0 advantage against the returning Spaniard.

Nadal managed to get on the board to avoid further damage, but Murray remained in control of the set and promptly served it out to move one away from a place in the final.

Murray broke Nadal at the start of the second to keep the left-hander on the back foot, and after fending off a number of break-back points, the two-time major winner struck again to open up a 4-0 advantage.

Nadal continued to threaten the Murray serve but after failing to convert further break-point openings, Murray sealed the match by breaking to love to hand his opponent an uncomfortable return to action.

The world number six will play either Novak Djokovic or Stanislas Wawrinka in Saturday's final.
