Andy Murray ousts fellow Brit Kyle Edmund to reach semi-finals of China Open

Andy Murray beats fellow Brit Kyle Edmund in straight sets to reach the semi-finals of the China Open in Beijing.

Andy Murray has battled past his Davis Cup teammate Kyle Edmund to reach the semi-finals of the China Open in Beijing.

It took one hour and 50 minutes for the three-time Grand Slam champion to get over the line as he sealed a 7-6(9) 6-2 triumph over the world number 54.

The first set was a tight affair as games went by the way of serve, with the first break point being created by Murray in the 10th game.

Edmund held, though, and eventually a tie-break was needed to separate the two competitors, and it was Murray who fought to set point by clinching it 11-9.

The reigning Wimbledon champion suffered a wobble at the start of the second set when Edmund instantly went a break up, but the 21-year-old failed to hold on to the momentum.

Murray responded strongly by snatching serve three times in a row before booking a place in the final four of the tournament for the second time in his career.
