Gael Monfils defeats fellow Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga to progress to the last 16 of the Miami Masters.

Gael Monfils has advanced to the last 16 of the Miami Masters courtesy of a 6-4 7-6 win over fellow Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.

Monfils broke Tsonga's serve in game three, while Tsonga was unable to take advantage of two break points in game six as Monfils held serve throughout the opening set.

Both players broke serve back-to-back in games three and four of the second set, and Tsonga failed to convert two set points in game 12 as it went to a tie-break.

Monfils came from 0-2 behind in the tie-break to win 7-4 and set up a match against Tomas Berdych or Bernard Tomic in the next round.
