Kyle Edmund's injury return ends in first-round defeat

Kyle Edmund loses in straight sets to Malek Jaziri at the first-round stage of the Nottingham Open.

British number three Kyle Edmund has suffered a first-round defeat at the Nottingham Open on his return from injury.

The 20-year-old, who is currently ranked at 101 in the world, withdrew from Queen's last week due to an abdominal problem.

Edmund was back out on the court this afternoon, but he fell in straight sets to Malek Jaziri with Wimbledon just one week away.

Both sets in the rain-affected match went the distance, with Jaziri taking the first 7-6(4) before wrapping things up in less than two hours by taking the second 7-6(5).

The Wimbledon wildcard did not show any signs of struggling with his injury, however, coming through the contest unscathed.
