Edmund edges past Bautista Agut in Beijing

Kyle Edmund has progressed through to the China Open quarter-finals with a win over Roberto Bautista Agut.

The seventh seed was ranked 16th in the ATP Race before the start of the tournament in Beijing but he was outlasted by Edmund, who came through 6-4 4-6 6-4.

Neither player looked totally secure behind their serve with 25 break points being created during the contest, but it was the British number two who eventually edged through to the last eight.

Edmund struck five times in the match, including twice in the deciding set, to prevail in two hours and 10 minutes and he could face another British player in the quarter-finals.

World number two Andy Murray is scheduled to face Andrey Kuznetsov later on Wednesday.
