Tomas Berdych ousts Richard Gasquet in Madrid Open second round

Tomas Berdych has beaten Richard Gasquet in straight sets to make it through to the third round of the Madrid Open.

Waiting for the sixth seed in the last 16 of the tournament will be Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.

Berdych and Gasquet both exchanged service breaks midway through the opening set, but it was the Czech who prevailed 7-3 in the tie-break to land the first blow.

World number seven Berdych wasted two break points at the start of the second, though it mattered little in the end as he was able to secure a 7-6(3) 7-5 victory.
