Tomas Berdych reaches second round of Dubai Tennis Championships

Tomas Berdych has reached the second round of the Dubai Tennis Championships with a 6-3 6-4 victory over Marius Copil.

The opening set swung in favour of the third seed when he managed to convert a crucial break point to take control of the court.

While Copil showed his strength with a couple of aces, the Romanian struggled slightly with his first serve and relinquished the first set.

Berdych managed to maintain dominance on the court by nabbing an early break of serve while also saving a vital break point to stay on top.

For Copil, while he created a number of chances to launch a comeback on centre court, Berdych was able to hold out and seal a place in the next phase of the tournament.
