Tomas Berdych eases into third round of Madrid Open

Tomas Berdych reaches the third round of the Madrid Open with a 6-1 6-4 victory over Kevin Anderson.

Tomas Berdych has seen off Kevin Anderson 6-1 6-4 to reach the third round of the Madrid Open after the pair went head to head for the 10th time.

The sixth seed started strongly on the court and grabbed an early break of serve, leaving Anderson on the back foot from the outset.

Berdych clinched two break points in the first set, while Anderson could only get one game on the board as he succumbed to a one-set deficit.

The 28-year-old continued his dominance on the court in the second set as he took an early break, but Anderson showed some progress in his service games to keep proceedings tighter.

Despite Anderson's improvement, Berdych remained comfortable as he was able to see out the set and reach the next phase of the tournament.
