Spaniard Nicolas Almagro moved into round three of the Rome Masters thanks to a 7-5 6-2 win over Sam Querrey this afternoon.
Both players traded serves during the opening exchanges as the opening set appeared to be heading for a breaker.
However, Almagro claimed a late break of Querrey's serve to wrap up a 7-5 success.
The second set proved to be more straightforward for number 12 seed Almagro, who broke his American opponent on two occasions before serving out to wrap up the victory.
He will now face seventh seed Tomas Berdych for a place in the quarter-finals.
