Aljaz Bedene advances in Chennai

Great Britain's Aljaz Bedene wins his first-round clash against Vasek Pospisil at the Chennai Open.

British number two Aljaz Bedene booked his place in the second round of the Chennai Open thanks to a 7-5 7-6 victory over world number 39 Vasek Pospisil earlier today.

Canada's Pospisil reached the quarter-finals of Wimbledon last year, but he was unable to get the better of the Slovenia-born Brit.

It took Bedene, ranked 45th in the world, one hour and 46 minutes to overcome his 25-year-old opponent.

He will now take on Italy's Luca Vanni, who is 61 places below him the rankings, for a slot in the quarter-finals of the tournament.
