Ernests Gulbis suffers surprise defeat to Kenny de Schepper

France's Kenny de Schepper defeats sixth seed Ernests Gulbis in straight sets in the second round at Queen's.

Sixth seed Ernests Gulbis has suffered a surprise 7-6(3) 7-5 defeat to Kenny de Schepper in the second round at Queen's.

Gulbis has moved into the world's top 10 after his semi-final appearance at the French Open, but the Latvian failed to take his opportunities against the world number 66.

The 25-year-old failed to take any of six break-point chances during the first set, which allowed De Schepper to take advantage and win the tie-break 7-3.

Gulbis failed to find a way through in the following set, and again, De Schepper displayed the greater composure during the closing stages, breaking serve in the 12th game to condemn Gulbis to an early exit from the competition.

De Schepper moves through to play Spain's Feliciano Lopez in the last 16.
