Tomas Berdych survives scare to reach third round of Paris Masters

Tomas Berdych survives scare in Paris

Tomas Berdych has booked a place in the third round of the Paris Masters after recovering from dropping a set against Edouard Roger-Vasselin.

The 2010 Wimbledon finalist managed to seal a 6-3 5-6 7-5 victory in the second round.

Berdych looked in trouble at the beginning of the first set when he immediately lost serve, but he bounced back instantly with a break point of his own.

The 30-year-old needed just one more break of serve as he wrapped up the first set, but Roger-Vasselin showed signs of a comeback by battling to break point early in the second set.

Despite taking a 2-0 lead, Roger-Vasselin was unable to hold as Berdych broke and later gained a second break point to take a 4-3 lead.

His advantage did not last long, though, as the Czech's opponent broke to draw level at 4-4 before breaking again to send the match into a deciding set.

It was difficult to separate the two as just one non-converted break point by Roger-Vasselin was the closest that the set came to a break after 10 games.

The deadlock was finally broken when Berdych snatched serve to take a crucial 6-5 lead before successfully serving for the match.
