World number 20 Richard Gasquet has moved through to the third round of the Paris Masters this evening.
The 25-year-old completed successive victories on the show court for France in front of a jubilant Parisian crowd following Jo-Wilfried Tsonga's victory over Guillermo Garcia-Lopez.
Gasquet broke in the third game of the opening set and held serve to claim the set 6-4.
In the second there was no break of serve until the 11th game when Gasquet edged ahead but he was unable to take advantage. The 16th seed served for the match at 6-5 but appeared nervous and a double fault on break-back point took the second into a tie-break.
The Frenchman took an early three-point lead in the break before Anderson gave the crowd some more nervous moments by pulling the score to 6-4. A wide serve to Anderson's forehand followed by an unreturnable forehand was enough for Gasquet to clinch victory.
He will next face Roger Federer or compatriot Adrian Mannarino in round three.
