Fabio Fognini is stunned by world number 176 Lucas Pouille in the second round of the Paris Masters.

Fabio Fognini has suffered a shock defeat to world number 176 Lucas Pouille in the second round of the Paris Masters.

Both players dropped serve twice in the opening set before Pouille seized the initiative by taking a tense tie-break 7-5.

Fognini powered into a 5-2 lead in the second as the Italian fought back emphatically, but it did not last as Pouille rallied to forced another tie-break.

The Frenchman failed to convert a match point before Fognini wasted a break point during the dramatic breaker, only for Pouille to triumph 7-6(5) 7-6(7) to book his place in round three.

However, Fognini was not finished there as he argued with the umpire before leaving the court.
