Bernard Tomic books spot in round two

Bernard Tomic has advanced into the second round of the Paris Masters following a comfortable 6-3 6-2 win over Fabio Fognini.

The Australian took control of the first set when he broke at 1-2, before holding to move 4-1 ahead. Fognini managed to secure a break of his own late in the set, but another break for Tomic saw the 23-year-old claim the opener.

The second set also proved straightforward for Tomic, who broke twice, at 1-1 and 2-4, before holding to take the second in just 30 minutes of tennis.

Tomic, who had never previously been past the first round in this particular competition, reached the quarter-finals of the 2015 Shanghai Masters.
