Serena Williams has been forced to pull out of the Brisbane International due to an ankle injury.

The 30-year-old suffered the injury during a rally against Serbian pro Bojana Jovanovski, but managed to see through the match and claim victory 6-2 6-4.

Despite ending victorious, the American player has confirmed that she can no longer continue in the tournament.

The setback casts doubt over Williams's ability to play in the upcoming Australian Open.
