Andy Murray to undergo ultrasound scan on injured shoulder

Andy Murray reveals that he is to undergo an ultrasound scan on his shoulder after damaging it in his match against Rafael Nadal at the World Tennis Championship.

Andy Murray revealed that he is suffering from a shoulder injury in the wake of claiming his first title of the season.

The 27-year-old was handed the World Tennis Championship crown after world number one Novak Djokovic pulled out with illness earlier today.

Murray was denied the chance to test himself against the best in the world, although it may prove to have been a blessing in disguise as he was carrying an injury which was sustained against Rafael Nadal in the previous round.

"I don't know exactly what happened," the Scot told reporters. "I've never had anything happen to my left shoulder before. It's pretty sore and at the end of the match when I was reaching out to sign autographs it was quite painful.

"I'm going to have an ultrasound scan to check and see if there's anything there or not then I'll see what happens after that."

Should Murray be cleared to play, he will continue his Australian Open preparations at the Hopman Cup in Perth next week.
