Andy Murray rises to fourth in ATP world rankings

Andy Murray has moved into fourth position in the ATP world rankings after he reached the Australian Open final in Melbourne.

The British number one was defending a last-eight appearance from 2014, with his improved display being enough to help him return to the world 's top four.

Novak Djokovic has strengthened his position ahead of Roger Federer at the top of the standings, but Stanislas Wawrinka has fallen to ninth after failing to defend his title at the first Grand Slam of the year.

British number two James Ward is 102nd, while Kyle Edmund, who won his first challenger event in Hong Kong last week, has improved 44 places to reach a career-high ranking of 148th.

Liam Broady has also improved to a career-high position, with the left-hander now sitting at world number 180.
