Matosevic questions Mauresmo appointment

Australian Marinko Matosevic has questioned Andy Murray's decision to appoint Amelie Mauresmo as part of his new coaching team.

The former world number one was something of a surprise choice from Murray, who had been without a coach since parting company with Ivan Lendl back in March.

The Scot will train with the two-time Grand Slam champion for the first time on Wednesday, but Matosevic admitted that he would not be able to be coached by a woman due to the doubts he has over the quality of the female form of the game.

"Apparently there's a few guys in the top 100 who are coached by women. [Mikhail] Kukushkin is coached by his wife, Denis Istomin by his mum, and she's done a great job with him," Matosevic told reporters.

"For me, I couldn't do it, since I don't think that highly of the women's game. But Andy's mum coached him and she did a great job with him, so we'll see what happens.

"It's all equal rights these days, you've got to be politically correct, so someone's got to give it a go - it won't be me."

Matosevic shocked Marin Cilic to progress into the second round at Queen's today, a tournament of which Murray will begin his defence when he faces Paul-Henri Mathieu tomorrow.
