Mirjana Lucic-Baroni wins WTA comeback award

Croatia's Mirjana Lucic-Baroni wins the WTA's Comeback Player of the Year award following her exploits at the US Open and in Quebec.

The WTA has announced that Mirjana Lucic-Baroni has been voted the Comeback Player of the Year.

The Croatian broke into the world's top 50 during the 1990s, but following that, a loss of form had seen her slip down the rankings.

However, this year the 32-year-old won in Quebec City, which sealed her first WTA title in 16 years, as well as reaching the quarter-finals of the US Open in New York.

"I am so honoured and humbled to win the WTA Comeback Player of the Year award," she told the official WTA website.

"I want to thank every single person who voted for me and supported me all these years. I also want to thank everyone for recognising the passion, perseverance and love I have for this sport. I look towards 2015 with excitement and hope for many more great results."

Garbine Muguruza and Maria Sharapova were also in the running for the award.
