Johanna Konta: 'I had to remain calm against Garbine Muguruza'

British number two Johanna Konta admits that there were "definitely some nerves" as she closed out a three-set win over Garbine Mugurza at Eastbourne.

Johanna Konta has said that remaining calm during the decisive moments of her match with Garbine Muguruza was key to her progress into the Eastbourne quarter-finals.

The British number two added the Spaniard to her previous impressive triumphs over Zarina Diyas and Ekaterina Makarova, but the world number 146 has admitted that she was nervous as she served out for a 6-4 4-6 6-3 victory.

The 24-year-old told Eurosport: "I'm just really happy that I was able to stay tough because she really started picking up her level and I thought that she was going to run away with it a little bit. I was just happy that I was able to remain calm enough to take my opportunities.

"There were definitely some nerves there, but I'm trying to enjoy them more than anything and that makes a difference."

Konta will now play Belinda Bencic for a place in the last four.
