Keothavong falls short in Luxembourg

Anne Keothavong has failed in her bid to become the first British female finalist on a main tour event in 21 years after losing to Monica Niculescu in the Luxembourg Open semi-finals.

The Londoner, 28, lost in three sets to the Romanian 7-5 4-6 6-3 in a game which lasted just over three hours.

Keothavong, the world number 93, would have become the first woman since Jo Durie in 1990 to reach a final on the tour.

Niculescu will either play top seed Victoria Azarenka or Julia Goerges in Sunday's final.
