Roger Federer 'proved critics wrong'

Roger Federer says that his Wimbledon win has proved some of his critics wrong.

World number one Roger Federer has insisted that winning Wimbledon has proved that he is not past his best.

The Swiss had to wait two-and-a-half years before claiming his 17th Grand Slam title against Andy Murray at SW19 on Sunday.

The victory put Federer back to the top of the world rankings, and he is adamant that he has proved some of his doubters wrong.

"I knew how close I was for the last few years but some people didn't quite see that," said Federer.

"I think the belief got me to victory today, and almost two other ones in the last couple of years as well.

"I think it was a time where I just had to believe that things were going to turn around for me. I think I'm playing some of the best tennis of my life right now."

Federer has now won seven Wimbledon titles.
