World number one Roger Federer admits that he needs a holiday following his participation for Switzerland in the Davis Cup.

World number one Roger Federer has insisted that he needs a holiday following his participation for Switzerland in the Davis Cup.

The 31-year-old was recently knocked out in the quarter-finals of the US Open after winning Wimbledon, the Cincinnati Masters and an Olympic silver medal.

"I need a holiday badly," he told reporters. "I'm wounded, tired, and exhausted and need some time off right now and see where I go from here.

"Nothing has been decided for the rest of year, even though there is a plan in place, [but] that plan might change. I need to go back to drawing board to see what's important."

Federer, who helped his country beat the Netherlands in this weekend's World Group playoff, could yet play another four tournaments in the final three months of the year.
