Clijsters sets retirement date

Kim Clijsters has announced that she plans to retire from tennis after this year's US Open in September.

The 28-year-old famously won the Flushing Meadows Grand Slam on her return to the sport in 2009 after she had taken an two-year break from the game to start a family with husband Brian Lynch.

"As it stands I will end my career at the US Open," revealed Clijsters. "That is where I enjoyed my greatest triumphs and it is a very special place for me.

"The stadium is only about 45 minutes away from our house in the United States and my parents-in-law will be able to be present."

The Belgian has won four Grand Slam titles during her career, including three US Open victories.
