David Ferrer's quest to win the Monte Carlo Masters falls at the first hurdle to Brazilian Thomaz Bellucci.

Last year's finalist David Ferrer has been knocked out of the Monte Carlo Masters by Thomaz Bellucci this afternoon.

Having won his opening service game, Brazilian Bellucci went on to break Ferrer at the first time of asking.

A number of unforced errors from the Spaniard allowed Bellucci to extend his lead to 3-0, before he went on to serve out the set 6-3.

Unseeded Bellucci continued to take full advantage of Ferrer's mistake in the next set, breaking the world number five on two further occasions.

That left the 24-year-old with the opportunity to serve for the match, which he took to seal a 6-3 6-2 success.

Bellucci will now face Dutchman Robin Hasse for a place in round four.
