Fernando Verdasco knocks out Richard Gasquet

Fernando Verdasco reaches round four of the French Open at the expense of Richard Gasquet.

Fernando Verdasco overcame the challenge of Richard Gasquet 6-2 6-2 6-4 to reach the fourth round of the French Open this afternoon.

The match actually got underway yesterday evening, but with Verdasco two sets in front and the third set level at two games apiece, play was halted for the night because of bad light.

They returned to the court this afternoon, but the rest period failed to inspire home favourite Gasquet as Verdasco broke for a 3-2 lead.

The Spaniard then pressed home that advantage to win through in exactly two hours.

He will now take on the winner of Andy Murray vs. Philipp Kohlschreiber for a place in the quarter-finals at Roland Garros.
