Samantha Stosur books quarter-final spot

Samantha Stosur books her place in the quarter-finals with a 7-5 6-4 win over American teenager Sloane Stephens.

Samantha Stosur has booked her place in the quarter-finals of the French Open after beating Sloane Stephens 7-5 6-4 in Paris.

In a tight first set neither player seemed in the mood to give away easy points and both traded breaks of serve early on.

Stephens made a vital mistake late on in the set which gifted Stosur the opportunity to take the opener 7-5.

Stosur was clearly urged on by the first set triumph and the quality of tennis continued to improve with the sixth seed's power a constant threat to Sloane.

In a thrilling second set Stosur managed to come out on top despite being broken twice to wrap up the match 7-5 6-4 to ease into the next round.
