Maria Sharapova wins from behind to reach French Open quarter-finals

Maria Sharapova fights back from a set down to beat Samantha Stosur and reach the quarter-finals of the French Open.

Maria Sharapova fought back from a set down to beat Samantha Stosur 3-6 6-4 6-0 and reach the quarter-finals of the French Open this evening.

Australia's Stosur had to save two early break points in her first service game but then won the opener with a run of four straight games after going 3-2 behind.

Seventh seed Sharapova broke for the first time at the start of the second but was pegged back by Stosur soon after.

Stosur was within two games of the match at 4-4, but then Sharapova went on a eight-game run to wrap up the second and third sets in convincing fashion.

The Russian, whose last Grand Slam win came at Roland Garros in 2012, will now face either Spain's Garbine Muguruza or Pauline Parmentier of France in the last eight.
