Heather Watson unfazed by rain delay as she wins French Open first-round match

Britain's Heather Watson books a spot in the second round of the French Open after overcoming Nicole Gibbs in straight sets following a severe rain delay.

Britain's number two Heather Watson has made it through to the second round of the French Open after completing a three-set victory over Nicole Gibbs after a severe rain delay.

The pair were forced to suspend their match on Sunday with Gibbs a break up in the third and deciding set due to a rain-drenched clay court.

After returning to the court on Monday afternoon, Watson managed to turn the tie around by claiming a 5-7 6-2 6-2 triumph.

Watson dropped serve three times in the first set, and despite breaking back, it was Gibbs who saw out the set to take a firm lead in Paris.

The Brit fought back in the second set with a double break, but she lost serve early in the third to put her on the backfoot before play was suspended.

Today, though, Watson stormed her way to victory as she earned three consecutive break points to remain in the pack in the second Grand Slam of the year.
