Roger Federer brushes Alejandro Falla aside

World number two Roger Federer beats Alejandro Falla in straight sets to reach the second round at the French Open.

Roger Federer booked his spot in the second round of the French Open with a comfortable 6-3 6-3 6-4 win over Alejandro Falla this afternoon.

The world number two came under pressure early on against the Colombian, having to save a couple of break points, but Federer soon edged ahead in the first set with a break of his own.

After wrapping up the opener, the Swiss hit his stride in the second, barely allowing Falla to claim a point during his service games, while getting another early break.

Falla pushed Federer in the third as he tried to keep himself in the tournament, giving himself another chance to go a break up.

However, the former Roland Garros champion started to dictate the play again, wrapping up the match in less than 90 minutes.

Federer will face the winner of the match between Marcel Granollers and Matthias Bachinger in round two
