British number three Cameron Norrie is through to the French Open second round after opponent Peter Gojowczyk pulled out of their contest after just nine games.

Cameron Norrie has moved through to the second round of the French Open courtesy of an injury to opponent Peter Gojowczyk.

Last week, Norrie reached the semi-finals in Lyon to move into the world's top 100 for the first time and the British number three will now make further progress up the ATP standings.

The left-hander enjoyed the better of the first set, striking twice on the German's delivery to open up an early advantage, and another break was recorded at the start of the second.

Gojowczyk - who looked below par throughout his 41 minutes on court - indicated that he was not fit to continue and it enabled Norrie to take his place in the last 64 of a Major for just the second time.

Norrie will now face 15th seed Lucas Pouille, with that match to take place at Roland Garros on Wednesday or Thursday.
