British number one Kyle Edmund reaches round two of the French Open with a straight-sets win over Australia's Alex de Minaur.

Kyle Edmund has booked his place in round two of the French Open following a straightforward 6-4 6-2 6-3 victory over Alex de Minaur at Roland Garros.

The 19-year-old Australian struggled to keep up with the British number one's power and accuracy throughout the contest and was unable to make a mark on the match after a close first set.

Edmund, who is seeded at a Grand Slam for the first time in his career, has now reached the second round of the French Open four years on the spin.

The 16th seed will take on Hungary's Marton Fucsovics, who overcame Canada's Vasek Pospisil, in the second round.

Elsewhere, reigning champion Rafael Nadal is also safely through to round two after seeing off Simone Bolelli of Italy in straight sets.
