The world number one and reigning champion broke Darcis's first service game to take an early 2-0 lead, but the Belgian answered back in the fifth, before holding to keep the first set on serve at 3-3.

A break at 6-5 allowed Djokovic to move one set ahead, however, and one break of serve in the second was enough for the Serbian to take full control of the second-round match at 2-0.

World number 75 Darcis managed another break of serve in the third and what proved final set, but two for Djokovic allowed the 29-year-old to comfortably book his spot in the next round.
