Spain, Czechs level in Davis Cup

Spain and the Czech Republic have ended the first day of the Davis Cup final in Prague level at 1-1.

David Ferrer got the defending champions off to a winning start at the O2 Arena with a 6-3 6-4 6-4 victory over Radek Stepanek.

However, Tomas Berdych tied the contest when he overcame Nicolas Almagro 6-3 3-6 6-3 6-7(5) 6-3.

Spain are looking to win their fourth Davis Cup title in five years while the Czechs last triumphed in the competition as Czechoslovakia in 1980.
