Federer denies rift with David Cup teammate

Roger Federer says that there is no tension between him and his Davis Cup teammate Stanislas Wawrinka.

Roger Federer has denied that he made disparaging comments about Davis Cup teammate Stanislas Wawrinka.

Switzerland suffered a humiliating 5-0 defeat to the United States in last weekend's Davis Cup tie in Fribourg.

After their doubles defeat to Mike Bryan and Mardy Fish, the world number three was later reported to have said: "I played a good doubles, and Stan not a bad one."

However, the 16-time Grand Slam champion has now said that his comments were taken out of context.

"It was a disappointing result. But I had a day to recover on Sunday and that helped. The Stan comment was taken completely the wrong way," said Federer.

"I'd never say that, and I'll move on quickly. I spoke with both [captain Severin Luthi] and Stan to make sure there is no misunderstanding."

The 28-year-old is competing in the Rotterdam Open this week for the first time since his victory there in 2005.
