Andy Murray beats Bernard Tomic to reach Cincinnati Open semi-finals

Andy Murray is through to the Cincinnati Open semi-finals with a straight-sets win over Bernard Tomic.

Andy Murray has recorded a straight-sets win over Bernard Tomic to advance through to the Cincinnati Open semi-finals.

The British number one had to contend with a back problem and tiredness from his recent hectic schedule but still managed to register a 6-4 6-4 victory.

In the absence of Novak Djokovic, Murray is trying to add another Masters Series title to his collection but he was forced to receive treatment on his back during the early stages against Tomic.

However, he had not dropped a set to the Australian in their four previous meetings and that continued as he claimed the only break of the opener to move closer to a place in the last four.

Tomic held serve until the latter end of the second but after dropping serve in the ninth game, Murray was able to serve it out to move through to a showdown with Milos Raonic.
