Kevin Anderson edges through at Cincinnati Open

Kevin Anderson beats Leonardo Mayer in three sets to seal a spot in the Cincinnati Open third round.

Kevin Anderson has reached round two of the Cincinnati Open with a three-set triumph over Leonardo Mayer.

The 15th seed took a cagey opening set 7-5 on a tie-break after both players refused to budge on serve.

However, Mayer fought back emphatically in the second, bringing up four break points on his way to seeing it out 6-3.

Anderson moved into a commanding 3-0 lead in the decider, and from there the South African was able to secure a 7-6(5) 3-6 6-1 triumph.
