Angelique Kerber bounces back from bagel to beat Jarmila Gajdosova

Kerber fights back against Gajdosova

Angelique Kerber has booked her place in round two of the 2014 Australian Open by beating Jarmila Gajdosova 6-3 0-6 6-2.

Kerber claimed the opening set by two breaks to one, before world number 329 Gajdosova fought back to hand the German her first Melbourne bagel since 2008.

The 6-0 scoreline exaggerated Gajdosova's dominance in the second set in which Kerber won at least two points in every game, three of which went to deuce.

Kerber kept her composure at the start of the decider. She raced into 4-0 lead and, although Gajdosova then twice held to love, the ninth seed eventually cruised into the second round with minimal fuss.

Next up for Kerber, who hit 41 winners and 31 unforced errors, is a meeting with Russia's Alla Kudryavtseva, who overcame Caroline Garcia 6-2 7-6.
